Language of a pandemic.

LANGUAGE OF A PANDEMIC
------------------------------------------------
Sign outside a school in Belfast

Wuhan wet market, China, deadly source of a new  virus,
unknown, misunderstood, a form of pneumonia.
The Chinese deny it now. Don't believe their doublespeak.

Lungs under attack, breathing struggles.
The virus Spreads. It  floats and splatters in coughs and sneezes.
Germs germinate. You may  walk , run, ride or  fly ,
There's  no escape if it has you in its sights
 Droplets and globules unceasingly  multiply.
Test,  trial, temperature, fever, burning, take over.
Immune systems, body functions, slow down, shut down.
Decline , descend , die. Or recover miraculously.

The ones who fight it come to our rescue.
Doctors, nurses, health care assistants.
Paramedics, porters, ancillaries,  angels all.
NHS, hospitals, old and new , build and adapt , wards.
Ventilators vital for breathing , machines and medicine.
Oxygen is the key to survival.
Masks,  gloves,  aprons, defence against the deadly scourge.
PEP that's the vital ingredient to protect staff and save them from harm.
Supply, logistics, deliveries , shortages, always under the microscope.
We talk about THE FRONT LINE , it is another war.
Vaccinations,  antibodies, antidotes, all in preparation.
Scientists,  research, laboratories,  clinical trials and  guinea pigs.
All are working to save the world from this sinister invasion.
Statistics of admissions, deaths and recovery. Numbers for everything.

Everyone striving  to save lives .
Desperate search for a cure for Covid 19.
We are in LOCK DOWN , stay in, protect the NHS.
SOCIAL  DISTANCING , that's the new mantra
So keep apart two metres, one way in the supermarket .
Plastic screens protect the check out staff.
Queuing , waiting,  stocking up with necessities.
Not seeing friends, not seeing family.
Phone, text,  whatsap, zoom, email ,   even write a letter
Life on hold, postpone, delay . One day maybe, one day.
Communicate as best we can.
They say we have flattened the curve.
Hospital admissions are declinining
Now we are talking about lifting the lock down.
Will it be partial or complete?
We are talking about a  phased return and
a gradual return to work.

But wait , there may be a Second Wave.
We have to be prepared they say.
There will be stages and steps to encounter.
One day this will be over
We will find our EXIT STRATEGY.

We will defeat,
            overcome ,
           and   eradicate,
                               this novel Coronavirus.
APRIL 2020
Let's do the best we can.
